I'm in Between" is the theme song for the Nickelodeon animated original series, As Told By Ginger. It was written by Jared Faber and Emily Kapnek, with Macy Gray providing the vocals. The song was originally performed by Melissa Disney (Ginger's voice actress) before the show's first airing, but stayed foreign in later airings and was subsequently changed later down the line with a different version sung by Cree Summer. The theme song is included in The Newest Nicktoons and Nickelodeon Sing Along Karaoke (instrumental) albums respectively.
Background (The Grass is Always Greener)[]
It means that some people out there are unhappy or satisfied for what they have after being born into, wishing for the life that some "lucky" people have: such as being rich, popularity, a big house, expensive possessions, trips around the world, being a famous celebrity or things they wish they could have like money, better clothes, a "handsome" boyfriend, a "beautiful" girlfriend or even having children of our own (mostly during our high school days in order to show to our classmates that we are either now an adult or we are more stunning).
Then one day, when we finally go over the fence to see and feel the experience, we just notice it's not at all what we think it will be and we realized what we have right now is better. We can wait patiently, work hard, still have fun once in a while, enjoy life, enjoy our childhood, and enjoy being ourselves. Someday, ourselves, families, and true friends will indeed come to riches but we will have it in a better way.
Intro[]
The intro begins as Ginger and her friends leave school. Courtney pulls up in a limo (with Miranda). Ginger's friends see her mother's car being towed, Ginger disgusted. Hoodsey and Carl are doing science experiments, Blake stalks the two. Ginger walks into her room and writes in her diary; it contains photos of various characters. Finally, the series' logo appears.
Lyrics[]
Ginger/Macy/Cree: Someone once told me, 'the grass is much greener on the other side.'
Well, I paid a visit, while it's possible I missed it.
It seemed different yet exactly the same (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Chorus: 'Til further notice
Ginger/Macy/Cree: 'Til further notice
Chorus: I'm in between
Ginger/Macy/Cree: I'm in between.

Chorus: My grass is green.
Ginger/Macy/Cree: Someone once told me, 'the grass is much greener on the other side.'
