Coach Candace is the cheerleading coach at Lucky High School.
History[]
In part 1 in Butterflies Are Free, she watches her cheerleading squad as they perform. Dodie says that she wants in and Candace says don't they all. She then goes on to say that Dodie has to audition in front of the squad. Which includes a couple of routines. She emphatically tells Dodie that no freshman has ever made the squad before.
In Kiss Today Goodbye, Dodie goes in her office while she's eating lunch. Dodie asks if her if she will consider her for the pep squad's blue and gold season alternate. Candace tells her that a girl comes up to her every year and asks the same thing. But her answer is still no freshman. Dodie agrees to make her low-carb lunches. She bought a list of her likes and dislikes from Stuart Higsby. According to the list, she hates all things soy. The next day, she brings Candace her lunch and she loved it. Dodie then answers her phone in the office.
Then outside, as Simone gives instructions to the cheerleaders, Dodie holds an umbrella for Coach Candace along with a drink. She orders Dodie to get an ice pack for one of the cheerleaders who hurts her ankle. Dodie quickly takes off. After Dodie gets back, she orders the squad to quit early due to football practice. The day after, Coach Candace addresses the squad and asks if Dodie can take care of some of the cheerleaders' laundry. On game night, Candace walks across her squad. She orders Dodie to join the cheerleaders, but no fancy stuff.
In Dodie's Big Break, Candace calls up Dodie to perform as the pep squad gopher during a football game. She calls her by her real name, Deirdre. Later in the episode, Candace insists that Dodie is fine after she was involved in an accident on the field. She made Dodie a member of the squad after her presumed injury. Ginger, Dodie and Macie go to her office to tell Candace the truth about her "injury". She declines to let Dodie join the squad after lying to her. Ginger tries to convince her to let Dodie join the squad. She retorts by saying if she lets Dodie in, then she'll have to start forgiving everyone else. She starts to tell her back story about failing to join the pep squad when she was younger. She didn't get in because she wanted it too much and it made her look needy. It still hurts her after 23 years. Ginger confronts her and says she can't keep Dodie out because she lied. As a result, Candace decided to give her an audition. At the audition, however, Dodie really does injure herself. She reinstates her as the pep squad gopher and will let her try out for the team next year.
Appearance []
She wears a light blue shirt with a white collar. She also has a whistle around her neck. She wears a dark blue skirt with dark blue shoes. In "Butterflies Are Free", she wears her hair in a bun. However, in "Kiss Today Goodbye" and "Dodie's Big Break", she wears her hair down.
Personality []
She has a tough as nails personality. She tries to be fair as she can to all the cheerleaders. She rarely gives exceptions to anyone. It's revealed that she was rejected by her cheer squad in her youth and she still holds on to it. This may be the reason why she has a no nonsense policy.
Relationships[]
Lucky High School Cheerleaders: She coaches the girls hard and fairly. She will correct any mistakes that are made. She doesn't get on them a lot and she treats them all the same.
Simone: Even though she doesn't interact with her much, it's assumed they have a good relationship. Simone is trusted enough by Candace to give guidance to the other girls.
Dodie Bishop: She stated to her that no freshman had ever made the squad. She made Dodie the gopher mascot. This meant that Dodie really had to earn her spot. She finally gave Dodie a fair shot after Ginger talked her into it.
